今週のiタイム。 まずはこれです。  財団法人仙台国際交流協会企画・制作のDVD「多言語防災マニュアル 地震」を視聴しました。 母国で地震を経験したことがない学生も多いため、当校では主に新入生を対象とし、毎年学生たちに見せてきました。 そのおかげであの3･11の大地震でも大きな混乱がなく対応することができました。  12の言語で作られていますが、当校の学生は多国籍であるため「やさしい日本語」版で見ました。 今年入学した学生たちも地震のメカニズム、地震語の対応、地震に関する用語など地震について理解できたことでしょう。 DVDを見た後にはK長先生から、3･11の経験も踏まえて防災についてお話をいただきました。 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… 休憩を挟み、後半は「アクロスティック」という言葉遊びをしました。 「あいうえお作文」と言ったほうがわかりやすいでしょうか。 以前にも授業で行ったことがあります。 詳しくはこちらをご覧ください。 さて今回のお題ですが、「どうも」、「こわい」、「あした」、そして「名前を使った自己紹介」です。 学生たちの作品の中からいくつかをご紹介します。 「どうも」 どこにもない うっていない ものをもらいました ともだちから うわぎを もらった どうもありがとうございます うどんをかってくださって もしよかったらもっとちゅうもんしてもいいですか 「こわい」 この わしつに おばけがいますよ……わわわ こわいかのじょといるときもちが わるくなる いないほうがいい ごはんをたべない わるい人 いらっしゃいませ こくぶんちょうには わかい女の子が いる ※国分町…仙台市にある東北最大の歓楽街 「あした」 あめのとき しごとに行くのは たいへんです あしたになっても しんぼくをはかることは たいへんだとおもいます あなたと会える日 したいことがたくさんある たのしみにしています 「名前を使った自己紹介」 アン・トゥさん あんとぅはわたしです ともだちがすくないです うまれたところはベトナムです シンシアさん しんせつさを大切にしている しあわせに生きていく あなたがいるから イグマティアルさん（通称イグマさん） いまは仙台国際日本語学校でべんきょうしています クラスは２です まいにちたのしいクラスです 作品を味わっていただくため、あえて説明は割愛させていただきます。 こういう遊びが将来、日本語での作文や弁論、レポート等につながっていけばいいなと願っています。  （セ）  にほんブログ村   |

２月のことですが…
震災文集『ワタシタチの3･11-留学生40名の作文集』をお送りした広島県の方から、 「文集にCDは付いていないのか」というお問い合わせをいただきました。 話を聞くと、その方はどうもご高齢で目が不自由だということ。 ですが、残念ながら『ワタシタチの3･11』にはCDは付いていません。 せっかくご購入いただいたのに申し訳なく、どうすればいいものかと私達も頭を抱えていました。 そしてGW前… 学校に思いもよらぬものが届きました。 それがこちら。  文集の全文が吹き込まれたテープ、全３巻の大作です。 これはさきほどご紹介した、お電話をくださった方の話を受けて、 広島県三次（みよし）市の三次朗読奉仕者友の会の方々が作ってくださったものです。 テープと一緒に添えられていた手紙を読むと、このテープが作成された経緯がよりわかると思います。 ブログに掲載しても問題ないとのことでしたので、その一部をご紹介させていただきます。 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… 学校の皆様には色々なおもいをかみしめながら巡りきた春を味わっておられることでしょう。 ここ三次の地は先週でほぼ桜は終り、今はつつじのピンクが山々を彩り、田んぼで田植えの準備が始まっています。 （中略） 視力の不自由な方のおひとりからの要望で、作文集を読ませていただきました。 録音テープ完成までに約二ケ月もかかってしまい、昨日やっとダビングを終えました。 作文を他の会員（リスナー）にもぜひ聞いてほしいとのことで全員に届けました。 又、貴校にも届けてほしいと言われ、こうして送らせていただきました。 拙い読みでお聞き苦しいと思いますが、外国から勉強しに来ておられる方に聞いていただければうれしいです。 ここで、読み終えての感想や、お許しを得たいことなど少し書きます。 ・お名前のカタカナ読みが正しいアクセントや発音になっていないと思います。 （中略） ・文法的に、あるいは日本人の感覚で？と思える文章やことばは、最初は読むのに違和感がありました。 しかし、次第に慣れてきて、むしろ、ああ、外国の方がここまで日本語で考え、書かれたのかと感心し、 ことばを手に入れることの苦労を推察しました。 （中略） ・小さな誤読があるかもわかりませんがどうかお許しください。 ・全体的に貴校の教職員の方々と留学生の方々とのあたたかい人間関係、学習への熱意などが感じとられました。 加えて、3･11を通して地域を愛し行動されることで貴校の社会的存在意義がより高まっていくのだなと思っています。 以上長々と書いてしまいました。 （中略）私達三次の会が、思いがけず小さなつながりをもたせてもらったことに感謝しております。 皆様の充実した学校生活が続くように、そして仙台や被災された多くの地域の人々の日常が早く元に戻れるようにと、 遠い三次の地から願っております。 三次朗読奉仕者友の会 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… 三次朗読奉仕者友の会では、今後CD化することも検討してくださっているそうです。 当校と致しましても、いただいたテープ（またはCD）をダビングし、 宮城県の視覚支援学校に寄贈する等有意義に使わせていただこうと考えております。 最後になりましたが、教職員一同深く感謝しております。 三次朗読奉仕者友の会の皆様、本当にありがとうございました。 （セ） にほんブログ村  |

今日はみんなが待ちに待ったお花見の日。  桜前線が北上し、仙台も桜満開！ 先週の授業で準備も万端！ 今日は天気も良く、絶好の花見日和です。  朝9:00、遅刻者ゼロでいざ出発！ 目指すは仙台市内の桜の名所のひとつ、榴岡（つつじがおか）公園です。  歩くこと約20分で到着。 普段は午前クラスと午後クラスに別れて授業をしているため、まずはお互いに自己紹介。 青い空とピンクの花の下、みんなの顔にも笑顔が咲きます。  お酒はないけど乾杯〜！  用意しておいた鶏の唐揚げとコロッケにかじりつく女性陣。 恥じらいなんて微塵も感じません。 「肉食女子」はもはやワールドワイド！？  そして毎度お馴染みネパール軍団による歌の披露。 今年はなぜか国歌斉唱でした。  こちらも毎度お馴染みビンゴ大会。  当たった人から賞品を選んでいくのが仙台国際日本語学校式。 こちらは今年の目玉商品をゲットしたCッパソンさん。 彼女をはじめとする奥様方は、バスマットやタンブラーなど実用的な商品を選んでいました。 もちろん残ったお菓子やジュースなどもしっかり鞄に詰め込んでいました。  複雑な表情を浮かべているのはAンナプルナさんです。 理由は…わかりますね。  ビンゴの後は自由行動。 サッカーをする人あり、散歩をする人あり、写真を撮る人あり。 みんな思い思いに楽しんでいました。  最後は記念写真。 みんな良い顔ですね。 明日からも勉強頑張りましょう！ ※こちらもどうぞ。 （セ） にほんブログ村  |

２回目のiタイム。 今回はまず、当校独自の漢字検定試験K.TESTを紹介し、その後すぐにチャレンジしてもらいました。 抜き打ちだったにもかかわらず、みんなやる気満々！  結果が楽しみです。 合格した人には認定証を差し上げますよ。  テストの後はＷ先生からごみの分別の仕方について。 仙台市ではこのように、赤の袋に「プラスチック製容器包装」、緑の袋に「家庭ごみ」を入れて捨てます。 「家庭ごみ」には、小型電化製品やかさ、割れた食器類も含まれており、どちらに入れたらいいか迷うものもありますが、 Ｉ江先生曰く、基本的には「プラスチックは赤い袋、それ以外は緑の袋」と覚えればいいようです。  「ペットボトルはどちらに捨てますか？」と質問したところ、 「どちらでもありません先生！」とネパール出身Ａンナプルナさん。 ラベルとキャップを外しそれらを赤い袋に捨て、ペットボトルは床に。 そうです、「缶・ビン・ペットボトル（ラベルとキャップは取って）」は赤い袋でも緑の袋でもなく、指定の箱に入れるんです。 日本のごみの分別の仕方も、分別をする意味もしっかり理解してくれたようです。  最後はＫ長先生より桜についてのお話。 実は来週みんなでお花見に行くことになっており、それにあたって学生たちに桜のことを深く知ってもらおうということなのです。 心理学でいう「スキーマの活性化」というやつですね。 「花明り」「山笑う」といった桜に関する言葉や、「日本人はなぜ桜を愛するのか」といったお話の後、桜の歌も紹介していただきました。 ということで来週の「今週のiタイム」はお花見の様子をお伝えします！お楽しみに。 （セ） にほんブログ村 |

以前お伝えしたiタイム。 第１回目は授業開始２日目の先週木曜日に行いました。  まずは教職員の自己紹介から。 学生のみなさん、早く先生たちの顔と名前を覚えてくださいね。  続いてはE先生から日本留学試験と日本語能力試験について。 日本語学校は日本語のみを学ぶ場ではありませんが、日本の専門学校や大学へ進学するための予備教育という性質上、 非常に大切なのが日本留学試験と日本語能力試験です。 この２つの試験の違いと実施される時期、またその対策のためにどんな授業を行っていくかについても説明していただきました。  みんな真剣に聞いています。 今回の話を聞いて、それぞれ目標設定ができたことでしょう。  お次はS藤先生から今年度のスケジュールと校則・日本の法律についてのお話。 しかもK長先生のアクション付きで。 母国とは違う日本のルールに最初は戸惑うこともあるかもしれませんが、こればかりは「郷に入れば郷に従え」です。 ちゃんと覚えてきちんと守りましょう。  最後はこのボールを使ったコミュニケケーションゲーム。 このゲームのルールは簡単。 まずはみんなの顔が見えるように円形に座ります。 そしてボールを投げ、ピンクのボールを取った人が自己紹介。 それ以外の色のボールを取った人は自己紹介をした人に対して質問をするというものです。 ほとんどの人と初対面であるため、初めは緊張している様子の学生が多く見受けられましたが、徐々に笑顔も見られ良い雰囲気に。 これをきっかけに、１年間仲良くやっていきましょう！ 「今週のiタイム」ではこんな感じで毎週のiタイムでの取り組みをお伝えしていきます。 乞うご期待！ （セ） にほんブログ村  |

About “i TIME”
��.What is “i TIME”? “i TIME” is a new style of classes which we are starting in the academic year 2012. This new style of classes is designed to meet the need of the students who want to speak Japanese better by giving more opportunities in which they are exposed to the Japanese language. It is also designed to maintain or enhance students’ motivation to learn by contributing the development of their Japanese. “i” of “i TIME” stands for as follows. ・i for Idea: Time filled with the idea of teachers and students ・i for International: Time to promote international understanding through discussion with students from various cultures ・i for Interest: Time to share what students are interested in ・i for Intelligence: Time to enhance intelligence ・i for Ice breaking: Time to build closer relationship through breaking the ice among students and teachers ・i for Information: Time to provide useful information for students ・i for I (myself): Time to express myself ・i for “愛” (love in Japanese pronounced as “ai”) : Time filled with love ��. Syllabus Class time 90 min on a weekly basis Class This class will be basically held beyond classes. However, some classes may be held in a usual class according to contents. Contents We choose a subject every month based on the idea of “i TIME”. Subjects will be guidance, activities to improve communication, Japanese culture experiences, entries to events organized by other organizations and applications to various contests in this academic year. 仙台国際日本語学校の2012年度がスタートしました！ インドネシア、ベトナム、中国、韓国、ネパール、ホンジュラス、アルゼンチンから新入生がやって来ました。 また、まだ来日してはいませんが、イタリア、サウジアラビアの学生も加わる予定です。 昨年度からの在校生、プライベートレッスンの学生も加えると、なんと13カ国！！ 例年に比べると学生数は多くありませんが、ますます国際色豊かになりました。  日本語の勉強はもちろん、様々なことに学生と一緒に挑戦していきます。 2012年度も仙台国際日本語学校をよろしくお願い致します。 （セ） にほんブログ村 |

Full-time instructor at the Sendai International School of Japanese At 14:46 on March 11th, preparing for my next lesson in the staff room, I felt a tremendous quake and immediately left my desk. Shortly after, a whiteboard fell down onto where I was sitting while textbooks fell from the shelves one by one. There were tens of students and several instructors crouching in the corridor. Miyagi prefecture is the region which was expected to more than likely to be hit by a large earthquake in the near future, so at once I realized it finally had happened. The quake was so strong that for some reason I could not help laughing. Moreover, the quake lasted a very long time. When the lights went off in the corridor and a small orange emergency light came on, I prepared myself for uncertainty. Although news report said the earthquake measured a lower 6 on the Japanese intensity scale in Aoba-ward, Sendai where the Sendai International School of Japanese is located, I believe that the quake was far worse and intense we felt in our school, which is on the 7th floor of the building. After the main quake stopped, we evacuated our students to the park in front of our school. Not being able to communicate on our mobiles, we had no information at all. However, as we were prepared for the worst possible scenario we may encounter, we ran to a nearby convenience store and bought some food. There were a lot of people in the shop with the lights off. The shop had already run out of lunch boxes, rice balls and bread. However, there were still some confectionaries and bottled water left. A clerk had only a calculator to check out and it made the work harder. When we distributed the confectionaries and drinks back in the park, some students did not understood that the provisions were meant to last and should be rationed and mistakenly finished them. About an hour later, there were still aftershocks which were grate enough to sway roadside trees. However, our principal told the students to head home and return at 9 am on Monday, 14th. I usually take a train to go to work, but I had to walk back this day. It was snowing. In the city, traffic lights were off and the windows from all the buildings had shattered and the broken glass was everywhere. The pavement had cracked and heaved from the quake and caused fissures and ridges in the road. After I walked about an hour, I saw a TV station which had light. As I entered, I saw a TV in the lobby and it was airing shots of the sea. With a close look I figured out where it was, the screen had “Live at Sendai Airport” in the upper left. It took a while to understand what it meant. There were graphics and maps showing the all of the islands of Japan fringed with red and yellow signifying a warning about a massive Tsunami. I finally understood the magnitude of the situation. It easily exceeded the worst possible scenarios that we thought of when we evacuated to the park. I walked another hour in shock arriving home in the dark. Inside my house, there was no place to step the floor was covered in rubble. I entered into my room carefully with my shoes on, only having the light of my mobile phone. I quickly realized that it was impossible to live there. The elementary school became an evacuation center and filled with a lot of people. However, I luckily managed to find some space for myself near the door of the library room. The noise of the sliding door behind me made a rattling noise that was similar to the sound of rumbling before earthquakes began and I was scared every time someone used the door to see whether their family and friends were safe. The radio updated us with reports of the damage in the coastal area. Having no images, I was scared by the phrases such as “the number of dead and missing is many” “we have not obtained the full scale of the earthquake devastation”. Only having my business suit on without any warm cloths, I trembled with coldness and fear and ended up not sleeping almost all night. A half of banana and a handful of snacks were the only food which was distributed the next morning. However, I was extremely grateful for that, moreover I had to be in line for 2 hours in order to charge my mobile for 10 minutes; I could not reach my family and friends in Ishinomaki. In the end I stayed in this evacuation center for 3 days. On Monday 14th, I headed by bike for the park in front of my school where we promised to see each other again. There were more students than I expected. It was difficult even for us Japanese. So, I cannot imagine how hard and tough it was for them as international students. I still remember that I found them compassionate and resilient as they concerned for me. Luckily, we were able to find out the situation of all but a few students. On Tuesday 15th, as one of the students appeared to be in Ishinomaki and I could not contact my family, another teacher and I drove to Isninomaki. Being located in the coastal area of Miyagi prefecture, the media was reporting “devastating casualty” at that time. Even though 5 days had already passed, not all the water had receded from Ishinomaki. So, it was difficult to drive. We had to park our car in a convenience store parking lot from which the sea water had already receded. We started to walk towards my parents’ house, where we hoped to gain information. The first floor had been damaged by the tsunami but passable. I found my family there. My father told me where the evacuation centers were and also the flooded areas so that we headed for the town where the student may be by bicycle. The smell in the air was a mixture of sea water and oil. The air was full of the sound of sirens and helicopters. I will never forget these sounds, smells and the view of total destruction of my hometown. Finally, we almost reached the area of town the student may be in. However, the sea water and mud prevented us going any further and we had to give up. On Wednesday 16th, one of the missing students popped into our school. We also found out the condition of others and that of a student in Ishinomaki. It took 6 days after the earthquake to make sure all members of the Sendai International School of Japanese were all right. After the 14th, a lot of students left Sendai. It was understandable as nearly all infrastructure stopped working and we could buy just enough food at that time. Remaining were 20-30 students including those graduating in March. The graduating ceremony had been cancelled due to the earthquake but we decided to conduct a ceremony anyway, even though it was different than usual. With laughter and tears, the ceremony was moving although it was held in a small class room with few in attendance. I believe everyone there for the briefest of times forgot the devastation and difficulties of the disaster. More than half a year has passed since then and we have managed to support to our students since the earthquake, with a small graduation ceremony and with fewer students since classes restarted in April and we are putting information in our school’s blog. Looking back the over the last 6 months, we have been making efforts to do what we can do now as a school in a difficult situation. These essays written about experiences of students after the disaster were assembled to express our feelings and struggles. At the same time as our students suffered and endured we staff also were earthquake victims. We strongly believe that returning to life the same as before the earthquake is the best message to send all that we are strong as a city and school. As a Japanese language school in the area devastated by the earthquake, we were interviewed many times, especially because our students were involved with volunteer work. On October, 2011, a lot of students returned to our school and began studies. At the same time, a number of students chose to move away and other students who were scheduled to enroll in April cancelled. Additionally, after the earthquake, the number of students who want to enroll in school drastically declined. This situation was out of our hands and there was nothing we could do to change it. However, we continue to support our students as a Japanese language school. Showing the world that we are committed to supporting our students and growing as a school is important to us. I am a student at the Sendai International School of Japanese. I am a Mexican. This year the greatest earthquake took place in Japanese history. I was very scared. I was in the school at 14:46 on March 11th. I heard something shaking. My class heard something trembling. Immediately the tremendous earthquake started.
Everyone quickly hid under their desk. Women began crying. We held each other. The earthquake did not stop. All of us were very worried. Our teachers ordered us to quickly get out. We started running down the stairs. I was very surprised outside.There were a lot of people. Everyone used their mobile phones. I thought of my family and friends. We stayed in a park for about an hour, waiting for further instruction. Afterwards, our principal said “You are going home now. Please pay attention to for further earthquakes.” I went home with Victor, who lives with me.It snowed a lot around 4 o’clock. I was stunned. On my way back, I saw a lot of cars abandoned. A lot of people were forced to walk long distances. Everyone appeared to be anxious. I thought “What would you like to do now? Would you like me to help you with something?” When I went home, I was very sad. A lot of things were broken. I found that my room messy. The biggest issue was the children in the La Salle Home. We had to ensure their safety. It was impossible to use any communication networks. Having no electricity, we were not able to talk on mobiles. As the traffic was busy, it was chaos. Sendai looked miserable at night. With no electricity, we lit candles. I heard ambulance siren continually. There were a lot of helicopters flying around. Earthquakes took place every 20 minutes. I wanted to rest but it was impossible. Early next morning, I bought a lot of food and beverages. There were no public services such as gas, water and electricity available at home. My life became very difficult. I received a phone call 11:30 this day. It was from a famous Mexican TV company. I was surprised. They said “Can we interview you now?”. I answered “Yes, no problem”. Then, the interview started. I was not at all nervous. Although the people of Mexico worried about us in Japan, I wanted to share good news. I wanted the people of Mexico not to worry too much. That night I could access the Internet with my mobile. “Wonderful! Great!” I could listen to my interview on the web. I received a lot of emails. As everyone worried about me, they wrote a lot of comments. Their comments come from the hearts. I was delighted very much. Of course my family contacted me. So, I thanked God. As I was fine, I did not need anything special. Although I cannot forget that night, I could learn a lot things and teachings. It was a terrible experience but I was impressed by the Japanese. Truly, the Japanese people came together well. They are still making great efforts. Japan is working like a team. When I was a child, I loved Japanese culture. Now I would like to express my respect to Japan. To express my respect, as I am not good at the Japanese language I work in other ways. Therefore, I’m now doing volunteer work. I worked in a varieties of fields. I cleaned, gave food and beverage. I went to some places such as Ishinomaki, Shiogama and Iwanuma. I want to say on TV “You are not alone. Let’s work all together. First of all, I hope that those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake recover as soon as possible.
The Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th, 2011 affected our daily lives as international students who come to study in Japan as well as Japanese people. The Tohoku district was destroyed not only by the earthquake but also the Tsunami and this gave me valuable experience in understanding natural threats and disasters. When the earthquake occurred, I was at my part time job. Since I had never experienced an earthquake before, I didn’t notice what was happening at first. However, seeing Japanese people fleeing, I fled too. I finally noticed that there were tremendous shakes when I got out.We gathered outside in a safe place from falling debris and waited for the shakes to stop. But, the earthquake lasted for the very long time. When the initial shakes stopped, we decided to get our personal belongings from the lockers. As it was still dangerous, a few of us went inside and carried out our belongings from the lockers. Then, we decided to go home. I usually take a train to get to work and get off the train at the 5th station from my station to change to a bicycle. Although I went to the station by bicycle on that day, I found the train was not running so I decided to ride home. When I was nearing my home, I saw the Tsunami rushing towards me. The tsunami arrived at my feet very rapidly and as I was stunned, I dropped my bicycle and ran away from the surging water. Not knowing where to go, I walked around and popped into where people gathered. I clearly remember it was a very cold night. On the 4th day, as I happened to meet a Japanese acquaintance who lent me his bicycle so I could finally go home. As there were no essential utilities available at home, I had to go to a nearby elementary school and a junior high school where there was an evacuation shelter. Even though I already knew that there was little or no food available I stood in line with others hoping to receive anything. Unfortunately, with the shortages the distribution finished before it was my turn. Even though I received nothing, I was cheered by the smiling faces around. I had lost my phone and was worried about being not able to contact my family. Being worried did nothing to help that I wasn’t able to communicate with them. 4 days later I was able to use my friend’s phone to contact my family. My family was concerned and asked me to return home because of the radioactivity spreading after Tsunami. I did not want to return home and decided to stay. It has been nearly 2 years since I came to Japan and I can only think of all the teachers and my friends who have helped me. I am saddened at the thought of leaving them in this situation without staying to help. I have decided to stay in Japan after the disaster and will do my best to help restore order and return everyday life to the same as before the earthquake working alongside the Japanese, my friends and teachers. にほんブログ村  |

Even before I came to Japan, I was aware that there are earthquakes in Japan and that they frequently caused damage to the country. However, history showed that the level of damage and loss of human life had never been high in Japan so I didn’t pay very much attention to earthquakes because I thought no one was killed by them. When I experienced an earthquake for the first time, I wasn’t scared at all but found it rather fun. As I increasingly got used to earthquakes, they became like sand storms in Saudi Arabia.
When the tremendous earthquake we had been warned about in this region took place, I couldn’t tell how big it was and thought it was the same size as those I had already experienced. I was shocked when Japanese people around me were scared. “Why? Isn’t this usual?” Later that day, I was stunned when my mother called me and told me the death toll. “Were the earthquakes today that tremendous?” After the earthquakes, there were no electricity, water and gas. As water and electricity became available again the next day, I accessed the Internet and learned from the news about the tremendous damage caused by the earthquake. It was unbelievable. Ten thousand were killed by the tsunami and another 10,000 went missing. It was due to the high level of Japanese civil engineering work that no buildings and bridges are destroyed by the earthquake, which is what made me think that the earthquake was small. I had seen earthquakes destroy buildings and bridges and kill a lot of people in other countries on the news since I could remember. However, none of buildings and bridges were destroyed in Sendai and the tsunami didn’t reach where I live as it is far from the sea. So, I couldn’t tell the size of the earthquake. After the earthquake, while I couldn’t reach the network with my mobile phone, I had access to the Internet and could post messages on Facebook to relieve my family and friends in Saudi Arabia. Afterwards, my life was difficult as there was no electricity and water all day long. All foods were sold out in convenient stores and supermarkets. All restaurant were closed. I found it was good idea to buy food for two weeks at a time. As I am optimistic, I thought that everything would recover in a short period of time. I held onto those thoughts for a long time as many people were concerned about the radiation. However, others were not optimistic. Since foreign embassies urged us to go back to our own countries, foreigners started to leave Japan. Even though I didn’t want to go home, I had no choice. My most unforgettable memory is from two days after the earthquake. There was no chaos; everyone formed a line. However, everyone bought more than they needed. I bought twelve bottles of water from a vending machine once. Sunday , two days after the earthquake, I was forced to go to Tokyo, then Saudi Arabia. I still clearly remember that I asked my teacher this question during class on the morning on March 11th.
“Sir, are the recent earthquakes signs of a bigger one in the near future?” “I’m not certain whether there will be bigger earthquakes taking place or not. However, usually big earthquakes are followed by aftershocks.” I was somehow relieved by the answer. This was because I kept notes of the times of the earthquakes even though they were an intensity of 2 or 3 on the Japanese scale in my notebook right after my arrival in Japan. I didn’t know those small earthquakes in the past were not comparable to the Great East Japan Earthquake at all. I can’t help really laughing at myself since I used to think I would be killed by those small earthquakes. Now I know these ideas were entirely ridiculous and stupid. Although I was totally scared by my first earthquake, I gradually started to think they were not that scary. However, as I thought a big earthquake would hit Miyagi prefecture someday, my feeling of unease remained in my mind whenever earthquakes took place. In the afternoon on March 11th, I went to my part-time job as usual. My place of work was a curtain company which was close to the sea in the Gamo area. During my shift, I felt the different kind of shaking under my feet. I got out of the office room, saying “Earthquake!” and tightly held the wall next to the door. Although I expected it to stop soon, bigger shakes started. So, I immediately looked around whether there was something dangerous around me. Even though it was badly shaking, others ran to my place because they thought my place was safer. A Japanese person next to me called her husband probably as she was worried about him. There was already no electricity by then and telephone communication was down. However, as a result of such tremendous quakes, the lockers and the ceiling fell down. Due to the dust filled air, I had trouble breathing. Luckily, the quake lasted a minute or so, so that it wasn’t bad. Everyone went outside through the emergency door. When I thought everyone was fine, something I didn’t expect happened. As a Japanese girl had injured her left leg, and her sandal was covered with blood. Looking at her, I realized that the earthquake had already taken place. Surprisingly, cell phone from AU could still had reception. The manager called for an ambulance and the girl was hospitalized. When we checked the number of workers, we found a trainee girl missing. She came down about 10 minutes later, assisted by two people as she couldn’t walk by herself. I talked to her later and learned that she was in the toilet alone and totally horrified when the earthquake occurred. Moreover, she was totally upset by finding the automatic exit door didn’t open and she couldn’t get out in hurry. The quakes didn’t stop after the tremendous quakes took place. Our leader took us to another building which was more earthquake-proof. Then, he suddenly said “It is safer in this building. So, get inside quickly”. When we heard this, we mumbled “We already thought we were going to die inside the building . Why do we have to get in?”. Seeing an electric cable swung so widely that appeared to be going to cut off at any time, I thought it was dangerous both inside and outside of the building. Then, everyone was hesitant to go inside. It slipped my mind that I was close to the sea at that time. I just thought I survived the earthquake. I could hardly expect the Tsunami which was high enough to kill us later to rush in. As it was the most tremendous earthquake in my life, I was entirely shocked and couldn’t decide what to do next. Our leader convinced us and succeeded in taking us to the roof of the building. Within less than 10 minutes, the Tsunami was rushing to our building with making white bubbles from far way. Like toys houses and cars were swept away as bark debris and refuse in a moment. I was stunned by the sites that held cozy houses a minute ago vanished and left only pine trees. Tsunamis are really awful as they take everything away in such a short period of time between its arrival and leaving. I heard that the second and third wave are worse than the first one. Luckily, the second and third wave went another way. A Japanese woman who lived nearby was searching for her house, saying “I can’t find my house. I can’t find my house,” with tearful expression. Another person wiped her eyes in a corner probably because she worried about her family. Nature gives human beings hope while at the same time it gives us disappointment. No matter how human beings are strong, we are helpless against natural disaster. Soon, the Tsunami started to ebb away. Then, the fire in houses and factories sprang up here and there. It was like I was watching a blockbuster epic. After we made sure that we were safe, we went down on the 2nd floor and waited until Tsunami completely left. As the earthquake took place during our working hour, everyone was wearing only light clothing. As it began snowing, I felt incredibly cold. I was glad to be able to warm myself with a big plastic bag. The earthquake was followed by aftershocks. That was why we expected Tsunami to rush in again and all we could do we was wait. Some factories continued to burn all night long. I sometimes heard explosions. The sky was beginning to lighten at around 5 am. Soon or later, the red sun started to rise from the East. It looked redder than usual. I felt like I had won. On the other hand, I felt really sad deep in my heart because of the fact that the sun will always rise after an earthquake and Tsunami but many thousands of dead people will never see it again. During the early hours surrounded by destruction, I started to see the Self Defense Force members little by little after 7 am. With a closer look, I could tell that they were carrying dead bodies covered by white clothes on stretchers. I was shocked! We safely got out from the building around 9 am. It was horrible outside. Dead fishes were scattered everywhere. After I walked for a while, I saw cans of beer and juice from the Kirin Brewery Company were scattered everywhere. I felt like I was in the kingdom of beer. Then, the Self Defense Force took us to a junior high school in Nakanosakae by car. As I finally left the sea side, the feeling of fear and sadness lessened at the bottom of my heart. Song san and I walked from there to Sendai. I felt like taking a walk from the hell to the heaven. This was because I wasn’t starving any more. I stayed in an evacuation center on the first day when I came back to Sendai. A rice ball which was provided there was my first meal since the earthquake. After that, going back home, I cooked and ate with my friends for a while. One day later, Mr. Endo brought necessary things for the daily life such as gas, water, food and so on. There was nothing I appreciated more than this. I was very impressed and delighted that we were in the thoughts of our teachers during this time. Afterwards, I went back home temporarily. My parents strongly opposed me returning to Japan, saying “we don’t allow you to go to Japan this time.” To be honest, it was our school’s blog that made up my mind of returning. I was impressed by our teachers who were consistently working very hard, our teachers who were always making their best for their students in the front line. Additionally, I became sad, thinking that my resolution of working hard to make my dream come true after finishing a Japanese language school would vanish along with the earthquake. Losing my dream is like a bird with a clipped wing in sky. The bird will fall down somewhere. So, I once again decided to come back to Japan and make a good effort towards my resolution, not listening to my parents who were in strong opposition. On March 11th , at the time of the earthquake I was on my way to an Internet café after school. As I don’t have the Internet access at home, going to an Internet café is one of my pleasures on weekends.
When I was walking along the road, the ground started to tremble all of sudden. I had become used to earthquakes as I have been in Japan for two years. However, I soon noticed that it was totally different from ones I had already experienced. I started to run to the park which was 50 meters away from where I was. More and more people started to evacuate from nearby buildings and came to the park. There were 2,300 people who arrived in short period of time. Emergency bells were ringing in the now-empty buildings. When the shaking stopped at last, I heard sirens from the various direction and saw smoke behind the buildings as well. There were some helicopters flying in the sky. And then it started to snow. So, I found everything around me unbelievable. Maybe this is why I couldn’t tell what really happened and what a tragic disaster took place at all. After that, I went to a net café and saw the entire downtown had lost electricity. When I got back home, luckily my house wasn’t seriously damaged. However, it was chaotic inside and there was no electricity and water. I put some bottled water and cup noodles into my bag and evacuated to the nearby Komatsushima Elementary school. Until then, I mistakenly thought everything would haved recovered by the next day. However, after I read a newspaper the next morning, I soon learned I found how naïve I had been. I didn’t think people -hundreds of thousands of people- had been killed by the earthquake at all. When I learned that , I was totally terrified. Aftershocks and fear kept me sleepless until next day. The next morning I went to the Korean consulate. I expected that the consulate would provide bottled water or something while the evacuation center had nothing. As was to be expected, there were some food and water in the consulate. Furthermore, I washed my face for the first time in three days. I charged my mobile phone and was able to contact my family and friends. I became an interpreter for a news crew from a Korean broadcast station after I happened to be interviewed by them at that time. Since that day, as their interpreter, I visited various areas hit by the earthquake together with them. The devastated areas were more tragic than I imagined. I finally learned what the magnitude of the earthquake and the damage. Among various sites I went to, the most impressive people for me were the workers whom I met in a general hospital in Rikuzentakata. The first floor was covered by mud because of the earthquake and Tsunami. While we were thinking “no one can possibly still be in such a place”, we discovered signs of people on the 3rd floor. Surprisingly, there were about 160 elderly and bedridden patients in the hospital; doctors and nurses hadn’t left them behind and were trying to take care of them . As almost all of those 160 patients were immobile, hospital staff desperately brought them to the 3rd floor to escape from the tsunami. With no water, gas and electricity left, the hospital was unable to function as a hospital. Above all, the biggest difficulties they faced was the shortage of necessary medicines. Not only myself but also correspondents and a cameraman had tears in our eyes as we witnessed that the hospital staff keeping hope alive and making their best effort to take care of their patients in such circumstances. This was not the only place. People in the affected areas we visited kept their hopes up and desperately tried to rebuild their lives under unimaginable circumstances. As human beings, we were helpless in the face of the natural disaster. However, it was only human beings that could help each other to stand up again. I strongly believe that Japan and the people of Sendai and all devastated areas will rebuild their lives the way they were before the earthquake in time. These experiences made me convinced of this. I Will Not Forget 3・11
To Those who prayed for Japan At 14:46 on March 11th, 2011, a tremendous earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku, Japan caused devastating damage to the coastal area of the Pacific Ocean side, resulting in the deaths of more than 15,000 people. Also, because of radioactive pollution from the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant released following damage caused by the tsunami, people who lived nearby were forced to evacuate. At that time, foreign nationals left Japan either of their own accord or following evacuation advisories issued by the embassies of their home countries’ governments. In Sendai, where the Sendai International School of Japanese is located, a quake of 6 on the Japanese intensity scale hit the city while its coastal area including the port was devastated by the tsunami. Since both Sendai and Fukushima are located in the Tohoku region, people had strong concerns about radioactive pollution despite the fact that Sendai is about 100 km away from the Fukushima nuclear power plants. After a month had passed since the earthquake, life had returned to normal since the infrastructure was functioning again and we could shop and go to work or school. Our school building suffered almost no damage, so our classrooms were available for our students. However, we started the new academic year in April with a miserable atmosphere since harmful rumours had led more than half of the students who had left Japan to decide not to come back, and led new students to cancel. Under such circumstances, we changed our way of thinking and made up our minds to do what we could do for the time being. We took on three activities this year. The first one was volunteer activity. We cleared away the rubble and the mud in the coastal area hit by the tsunami. We were speechless when we saw the area devastated by the tsunami firsthand rather than on a TV or PC screen. We worked hard with shovels together with other Japanese people. All our international students told us that they had had a valuable experience which they would never forget. Secondly, we conducted more school events than usual. We enjoyed ourselves a lot at many events such as cherry blossom viewing, sports events, festivals and hot spring. It may sound imprudent in such crisis, but we tried to demonstrate the safety of Sendai by putting photos of our events up on our school’s blog and Facebook page. Things we say about the safety of the city are never as convincing as photos of international students smiling as they eat rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves. Thirdly, we decided to assemble essays about the experiences of the earthquake disaster by the international students. Forty international students wrote about their circumstances and feelings when the earthquake and the tsunami took place in a ‘foreign’ country, namely Japan. Written in simple words, these essays explain how they found the experience and the behaviour of Japanese people and why they continue to study in Japan after that. In Japan, media such as newspapers and magazines covered this collection of essays several times, getting attention especially because they were written not in students’ mother tongues but Japanese. However, we noticed that the Japanese version was not enough to tell the whole world the details around that time and to help them remember 3.11. That is why we decided to translate some of the essays into English. The collection includes essays by five international students of different nationalities and one essay by a Japanese instructor. We strongly believe that each of them is moving beyond a language barrier. After the earthquake disaster, we had a lot of support from rescue parties from various countries and relief supplies delivered by them. Additionally, heartwarming messages such as ‘PRAY FOR JAPAN’ on TV, newspapers and the Internet comforted and cheered us a lot. It has been a year. This time we would like to send this collection of essays along with our appreciation to the entire world. I would like to ask for your continued attention to our country. Thank you very much. ４つの言葉 X.M.Wang（China） 本選出場・最優秀賞受賞  今日私は４つの言葉「お疲れさま」、「ありがとう」、「頑張れ」、「すみません」に関してみなさんにお話をしたいと思います。日本に来てよくこの４つの言葉を耳にしましたが、最初は意味がわかりませんでした。しかし、地震の時体験したいくつかのことによって、この４つの言葉の意味が分かってきました。 地震が起きた翌日の午前中、私はある無料で食べ物を配っているレストランの前で並んでいました。どこまでもらえるか、だれも知りませんでした。しかし、文句を言う人は全くいませんでした。不満一杯の私は皆を見て一瞬にして冷静さを取り戻しました。皆は並んで疲れていても、意識的に老人や子供連れの女の人を前の順番に譲っていたのです。更に、店で働いている人は多分一口も食べずに、ずっと私たちのため働いていたのでしょう。みなに対して「お疲れ様」って言いたかったんです。 地震が起きて3日目。私はあるタクシーに乗りました。私は運転手さんに声をかけました。「こんなに厳しい状況でよく仕事ができますね」。運転手さんは「いいえ、実は私もとても不安です。息子とまだ連絡が取れていないのです。地震の時、彼は石巻にいたのです」。長い間の沈黙。「なぜ早く息子さんを探しに行きませんか」と私は聞きました。「いえ、テレビを見ると、現地の状況がひどいし、渋滞で行けません。むしろここで運転していたほうが役に立ちます」。その時、私の心は痛かったです。無事に国に帰れたのは多くの人々のおかげです。その人たちに対して「ありがとう」って言いたかったんです。 ちょうど一年前のこの日、3月15日。私はこのビルで佐々木真知子校長先生に「さようなら」と言いました。中国大使館からの迎えのバスが来て、「中国人全員帰国」と言われました。私は学校に行って帰国前の挨拶をしました。その時、校長先生はこう言いました。「孝銘さん、もしかしたらこれからの人生、もう会えないよ。頑張ってください！」。すごく辛かったです。将来はどうなるか分からないんですが、日本人から見ると生きている限り頑張らなければなりません。 私は今何でこの４つの言葉を皆がよく言うかが分かりました。人生は本質的にはこの４つの言葉です。つまり、この４つの言葉によって作られた生活を繰り返して上演します。両親に「お疲れ様」と言います、ずっと心配してくれて。友達に「ありがとう」と言います、ずっと支えてくれて。失敗した時、身の回りの人に「すみません」と言います、ずっと助けてくれて。最後は自分に「頑張れ」と言います、ここまで頑張ってきて。 イギリスの作家Shakespeareは「to be or not to be」と言いました。日本語に翻訳すると「生きるべきか死ぬべきか、それが問題だ」という意味です。ただし、私にとって人生はどんな道を選んでも、いつも「お疲れ様」の理解、「ありがとう」の心、「すみません」の態度、「頑張れ」の意志、そのような考え方を持っていれば、人生は違ってくるのではないでしょうか。 今日、ここで私は仙台国際日本語学校の学生としての最後の日です。先生たち全員にこの４つの言葉を言いたいです。この一年間いろいろ助けてくれて「お疲れ様」、いろいろ応援してくれて「ありがとう」、いろいろな迷惑をかけまして「すみません」、将来はまだ長いですから私も、先生たちも「頑張れ！」。

日本人の心は冷たく見えます！！ V.L.Domingo.E（Mexico）  世界で国々の挨拶は違うけれども、どこでも大切なものです。各国にいろいろな挨拶のマナーとやり方があるので、理解することは難しいです。 あるとき、仙台駅の中で私は新幹線を待っていました。その時、周りを見渡して、感動的な光景を目撃しました。長い間会っていなかったお父さんと娘さんのようでした。 その時から、日本の文化と歴史に興味を持って勉強し始めました。そうすると、日本社会に関してだんだん分かるようになりました。そのため、私の日本人についての意見は変わって来て、今の生活は楽しくなりつつあります。 さて、外国人は日本へ初めて来たとき、いろいろな疑問があって、たくさんの間違いをします。例えば、日本人と外国人が日本で初めて出会ったとき、外国人が自分の国の挨拶をします。そして、日本人は日本の挨拶をします。この場合、誰が間違いますか？どんな気持ちを感じますか？だれも間違っていません。しかし、お互いに間違いを感じるので、恥ずかしくて困るときもあります。 西洋の挨拶と東洋の挨拶はとても違うと思います。日本は独特です。西洋人が挨拶するとき、ボディーランゲージは大切です。挨拶の際に体をいつも使います。例えば、握手とか、抱擁とか、キスなどをします。それなのに、日本人は体をあまり使いません。触れることがありません。お辞儀をするだけです。だから、外国人の大部分はカルチャーショックを受けます。しかし、時とともに、その感じは消えていきます。 でも、まだ先ほどの質問に答えていません。「日本人の心は冷たいですか。どうしてですか」。私は今まで二年ほど日本に住んでいますが、私の日本人についての意見はだんだん変わっています。本当は日本人の心は冷たくないんです。温かい心と優しい気持ちを持っています。しかし、日本人は気持ちを公にあまり表現しないと思います。それは、日本の歴史との関係があると思います。日本の歴史に従って、日本の社会の基本は武士道です。そのために、日本人の態度と気持ちの表現のしかたは侍のようです。また、日本の構えは禅に基づいています。ですから日本の教養と心構えは古い歴史に深く根をおろしています。だから日本人の心は冷たくないんです。単に表現の気持ちが異なるのです。 私は日本の社会から、人をどのように尊重するかを学ぶことが出来ました。ですから、日本人の皆さんに感謝をしたいと思います。 その前にここにいらっしゃる皆さんに最後に伝えたいのは、どこの人でも、どこの国の文化でも、偏見の目で見る前に、その人や国の文化を理解して学んでいきましょう。

好意？悪意？ Y.J.Lu（China） 本選出場・優秀賞受賞  私は日本に留学するために中国の言語学に通っていました。先生は曖昧さを紹介した時、一つの例をあげました。この先生の学生時代、ある日本人の友達がいました。その友達は「私のうちに遊びに来ないか」と言って、そして先生はせっかく人が誘ってくれたから行かなくては失礼だと思って、友達の家に行きました。その後、その友達からの連絡は二度と来ませんでした。挨拶はちゃんとするし、礼儀も正しいし、失礼なこともしないし、どうしてこうなるだろうかと先生は迷ってしまいました。「人が遊びに来てほしくないなら、最初から人を誘わなければいいじゃないですか」と私はそう思いましたが、先生は「日本人は礼儀のために人を誘ったり、話したりしますので、この時はその雰囲気を判断し、相手の招待を受けるかどうか考えます」と言いました。私はこれが一番難しいと思います。 時々相手の意思を間違ったり、誤解したりして、相手が本音で私を誘った時、建前と思って受けた場合、相手も不快に感じます。逆に、相手が建前で私を誘った時、本音と思って受けた場合、相手も不快に感じます。そのために、友達との関係が悪くなったり、友達を失ったりすることもあり、残念なことになります。 日本人は相手が困らないように、わざと建前を言います。例えば、高くておいしいお菓子を相手に贈る時、「このお菓子はうちの者は食べないものですから、遠慮しないで食べてください」。これは建前の言葉で、本音で言うのは、「あなたのためにこのお菓子を買いました」。直接本音を言えばいいじゃないですかと私は思います。なぜなら、もし私の国でその建前を言ったら、「なーに、自分も食べないものを私に。失礼ね」と思われて、逆に相手の気持ちが悪くなるからです。 私は日本で生活し、一つの悩みが生じました。「嘘をつくのはよくない」っていつも聞かされています。嘘といったら事実を歪めることで、悪いイメージが浮かびます。だけど、人は生活しやすくするため、相手に好意を表すため、建前を言います。「それは嘘じゃないですか」と私は悩んでいます。しかし、相手を思っての嘘というものもあります。例えば病気で入院しており、明らかに体調が悪化してきている患者にその家族が、「今日は顔色がいいね」と言った場合、これは建前であると同時に嘘ですが、決して悪い嘘だと思えません。むしろ患者を支えるためについた悪意のない、好意だけを持つものです。その患者さんも「よし、今日も頑張ろう」と病と闘えるのです。 私は日本に来る前に、本音を隠す、建前だけを言うことはよくないと思っていました。しかし、日本で生活し、日本人と話したりしているうちに、日本人の考え方がだんだん分かり、日本人の優しさも感じました。建前は嘘ですが、相手の立場を考え、相手の気持ちを重視することこそが建前と嘘の差であり、曖昧さを感じるけれど、建前と本音の分別は難しいけれど、相手を理解し相手を尊重する思いはとても貴重なものだと私は思います。皆さんはそう思いませんか？ |

遠慮して負けたくない P.Shrestha（Nepal） 本選出場  私は留学生として海外で一人暮らしをしたのは日本が初めてです。子供の頃から僕は恥ずかしいタイプでした。一人になった時、ときどき子供の頃のことが頭にうかびます。そんなおもいがうかんださい、一人で笑顔になって恥ずかしくなります。 小学校のころ、学校の遠足に参加した時、友達と楽しくしようと思って一人ずつ順番に歌を歌うことにしました。分からないうちに先生が来て、私の歌を聞いていました。私は途中で歌を止めました。恥ずかしくなって歌の流れができませんでした。先生が「いいよ。進んで遠慮しないで歌って」と私にたのみました。でも私は「いえいえ、とんでもない」と言って歌を止めました。私は自分が上手になれることを何回も遠慮して負けてきました。でも、今こそ負けたくないです。 またある日、父と私が親しい家のお祭りに訪れた時、私が好きな食べ物が出て来ました。目の前にこんな好きな食べ物があったので、がまんできなくなってぜんぶ食べちゃいました。自宅に着いて、すぐ父にしっかりしかられました。父は母に「君のいい息子はあつかましくて、出てきた料理を全部食べた」と聞かせました。母もおこったと思ったんですが、かえって「あなたはいい子供ですよ。そんなことはこれからしないで」というふうにやさしく注意されました。その日から、だれかにさそわれた時、あまり食べずに帰ることにしています。 お祭りとかおめでたい式など親族の集まりの時、どんどん食べるのは私の民族のきびしい文化ではいけないことです。そんな文化を習って来た私は、どこに行ってもよく食べられませんでした。でも、日本に来たばかりのとき「遠慮しないで食べて」と日本で知り合った日本人の家族が私に言いました。でも、母国の習慣でよく食べられませんでした。日本での生活を無駄にしたくないです。そのため、色々な活動を始めました。日本人の家族ともっと近づいて、日本の習慣に慣れるため頑張りました。だんだん日本の習慣に慣れて来ました。今は日本の習慣やルールを守っています。日本で知り合った日本人の家族の家に行った時はたっぷり食べます。だから最近「遠慮しないで」と言われません。 習慣は国と民族によって違います。できることもできないように遠慮して自分が負けるのはどのぐらいひどいことか。自信がなくても失敗を恐れず、とにかくチャレンジしてみることが大切です。どんな小さいチャンスも逃さず、それをきっかけに進みましょう。今のチャンスを自分で失って、将来自分に文句をダラダラ言わないようにしましょう。 |

えがお G.Lkhagvadorj（Mongol）  日本人の笑い方と笑顔はモンゴル人と違います。日本人はいつでもどこでも笑ったり、笑顔をみせたり、本当に幸せな人だねと思います。また、仕事のときも自分のじゃなくてみんなのために生きているみたいです。モンゴル人も同じですが、でもモンゴル人はそんなに笑いません。ちょっと優しくない人が多いと思います。でも人によって違うかもしれませんね。国にいたときはどんなとき、どこで笑って笑顔をみせるのかよく分かりませんでした。 日本に来てから自分で感じたのは、日本人は仕事が始まるときにも終わるときにも「おつかれさまでした」といいます。ほんとに優しくて、あいさつするのはほんとにいいと思いました。朝「おはようございます」、昼「こんにちわ」、夜「こんばんは」とか仕事が終わりのときや始まりのときにかならずあいさつします。ぼくがはたらいている仕事の部長は「今日みんながんばりましょう」といいながら、すごくしあわせな感じでみんなを見て、笑顔で「よろしくお願いします」といいます。学校にいるときも同じで、朝「おはようございます」といって、授業が終わりの時も「今日よくがんばりました。みんなさよなら。じゃ、あしたね。じゃまたね」といいます。それをきくと日本人はあいさつするのは一番ですねと思いました。 ああそう思いだしました。ぼくはある日、家からでて、かいものに一番町へ行きました。そのとき隣で買い物している女の子は私に話しかけて、「あなたは日本人じゃないんですね？」とききました。「そうですね、僕はモンゴル人です」と言うと、「へえ、そうなんですか？あたしは日本人です」といいながらすごくかわいい顔で笑いました。で、友達になってわたしが帰るときにモンゴル人の女の子とあいました。で、そのときちゃんとあいさつしたけど彼女は笑顔をしませんでした。なんでと思いました。で、帰ったときよく考えると、モンゴル人と日本人の違うのがわかりました。日本人はやさしく笑顔するのが上手ですね。モンゴル人は笑うときだけ笑います。何もしていないときとか、はじめてあったときも少しだけなんでsmileしないのかなと思いました。人間は笑うときれいにみえるし、体にもいいです。嘘の笑い方をしないで、ほんとに心をこめて笑ったり、好きとか好きじゃないとかはかんけいなく、あい手に笑顔であいさつしたほうがいいと思います。 ぼくは日本に来たから毎日幸せになって、あい手にちゃんと笑顔であいさつしています。日本に来て勉強しながら友達もできて、先生たちにときどきほめられるのは本当に言葉にできません。ほんとによろこんでいます。みんなありがとうございます。日本に来てからできないものできるようなりました。日本語を教えている先生たち、ありがとうございます。みなさんのおかげで、ぼくは何のために生きているのがわかりました。みんな笑顔でみらいへすすんでいきましょう。 にほんブログ村 |

日本人の心 A.Rachuk（Russia）  私のロシア人の友達が日本に着いてからとても感動しました。なぜなら、日本はまるでおとぎ話に出てくるかのような素晴しい国だと思ったからです。その話を聞いた私はいつか日本に行って見たいと思うようになりました。 そして、やっと日本に来る機会ができました。「まさしく、日本は素晴しい国だ」。一番気になった事はどこに入っても周りの人がニコニコ笑っていていることです。当時の私にはまだ分からない日本語で話しかけてきました。残念ですが、ロシアにはそういった接し方はあまり見られません。１ヶ月後私は日本人と会話をしたいと思い、彼らの文化を知るために日本語学校に通い始めました。学校に通っている間あるときに気が付きました。私が先生と話しているときに先生は私の話し方を直してくれません。「なぜ？なぜ先生が私の話し方を直してくれないの？まさか、私はそこまで日本語が上手だろうか？」。けれども、私の日本語がまだまだ良くないと自分で分かっていました。 しばらくしてから私は日本人女性、なおみと友達になりました。外国語で話をするのはすごく楽しくなりました。ある日、私はなおみを家に誘いました。ロシアの料理だけを作って彼女を喜んで待っていました。それから、なおみが来たとたんに私は強いショックを受けました。彼女はポテトチップとコカコーラを持ってきました。「なんで彼女はそれを持ってきましたか？」私は自分に聞きました。１５分ご分かりました。たくさんあった料理の中でなおみはサラダだけ一口食べました。私はすごく傷つきました。「もし、私の料理が美味しくなかったらはっきり言って下さい」。「いいえ、全部美味しいよ」と言われてから私はもっとショックを受けました。サラダだけを食べたのに全部美味しいと言われて、変じゃないですか？ それから一週間たって、なおみの誕生日がありました。私は一生懸命プレゼントを探しました。しかし、あげたときに彼女はプレゼントをそのままそばに置きました。「どうして開けないの？」と聞いたときになおみがびっくりして、「えっ、今開けていいの？」、「もちろん、あなたのために心を込めて探してきたプレゼントだから今開けてほしい」。それから彼女は５分かけてプレゼントを開けました。無表情でリボンを一つずつ解いている彼女を見ると私の心にすっかり傷がつきました。私の料理も、プレゼントも気に入らなかったようです。特に、気になったことは四ヶ月で私たちはたまに連絡をしました。日本人がそんなに冷たいと思いませんでした。 ある日、私はロシア人の友達と会いました。彼女の話によると結婚生活六年の間、日本人の旦那さんは「愛している」という言葉を一度も言ってくれないとのことでした。私たちロシア人の文化では有り得ない事です。まず、私たちは相手に自分の気持ちを必ず教えます。さらに、嬉しい顔をしながらプレゼントを開けます。友達の家に来たら自分の家のように感じます。連絡も大体毎日します。私たちは自分の感情を隠しません。そこは日本人が全く違います。愛しているならどうして言えないのでしょう？笑いたいときは笑って、泣きたいときは泣いて。私たち人間は人生が一度しかないから我慢する必要がありません。 しかし、去年の地震の後なおみから電話がきました。涙を流しながら私は無事であることを伝えました。３月22日に新潟からロシアに帰ることを教えました。それから新潟空港で飛行機を待っている間、なおみが大阪から会いにくれました。私たちが半年ぐらい会いませんでしたが、嬉しい涙を流しました。 その後、私は二度と日本文化について疑問を抱かなくなりました。なぜなら、私は日本人の心を見ることができ、本当の心の深さを知ることができたからです。今ならなおみの行動が日本の文化の一つだったことがわかります。 にほんブログ村 |

個人の社会 P.Sunil（Nepal） 本選出場  「早く帰って来い。時間をきちんと守りなさいよ。社会の人が見ているよ。他人のために生きなさいよ」。そう言う親の命令に即して暮らしていた私は、来日して初めて日本人を見て驚きました。日本へ来てから驚いたことは夜遅くまで外で遊んでいる若い人たちです。どうしてそんなに自由があるのか、どうして誰も文句を言わないのかという質問が自分の頭の中でぐるぐると回っていました。その態度を見てから、親の厳しい習慣にがっかりしていた私は、自分も自由になった事を感じました。 日本と違ってネパールは夜遅くまで外にいられません。どうしてかと言うと世間を考えつつ生きているからです。親や親類から私も何回も叱られたことがあります。「社会の人から笑われているよ。君が家にいないことは習慣になっているから、自分らはいいけど家族の評判を考えなさい。長い時間外にいることだけで親がすごく心配します。君のせいで皆家族が大変になっているよ。顔を見せられないほど恥ずかしくなったよ」などと言って叱られます。ネパールではずっと昔ながらの世間にしたがう生活をしています。 私がしっているかぎりでは日本にも世間がありましたが、国の発展に伴って世間がなくなっていっているかなと思います。自分が独立していて、一人暮らしをして、自分以外の人は関係なく生活していたから世間がないかなと思います。一人暮らしも世間の中に含められています。来日してから私は、日本人の一人暮らしの習慣を見て驚きました。日本人にとって普通かどうかわからないですけど、外国人の私はすごく驚きました。自分の国では結婚の前とか就職が決まる前に一人暮らしはしません。ネパールでは親に相談にのってもらってからだけ一人暮らしをすることに決まっています。一人暮らしをすると、社会の人から文句をいわれる恐れがあって、あまりしないことにしています。 ネパールと日本の大きな違いは、日本人は欧米の文化をみならって、自分の生き方も変えつつ生活していることです。服装から今の一人暮らしまで、日本人のこの態度を見てすばらしいかなと自分で思いました。生まれたときから親に頼って、家族の誰かが一人で仕事をして、皆一人に頼って暮らしている自分と自分の周りの人は、日本人に比べて努力が足りないかなと感じました。ぜいたくだけする自分の態度をかえなくちゃと思いました。 皆さんも自分の生きている近所とか世界を見て、世間についてどう思いますか。 にほんブログ村 |

震災記録文集『ワタシタチの３･11−留学生40名の作文集−』を、またまた増刷しました。
これで、第１刷から第３刷まで、計６５０部を発行したことになります。 これも、みなさまのおかげです。感謝。感謝。 そして、念願かなって、春休みのこの時期に、文集１５０部を全国の国際交流協会に送ることになりました。 各都道府県の国際交流協会と市町村が運営する国際交流機関などに献本させていただきます。 ということで、先週から、せっせと教職員が手作業で制作し、本日すべて発送し終えました。 おそらく今週中に、遅くとも来週には届く予定です。 一人でも多くの方が手に取ってくれますように。  増刷するにあたり、表紙の背の部分にも書名を入れました。本棚に並んでも目立ちますように。  感想を手紙やハガキで送ってくださった方もいて感動しました。ありがとうございました。 他にもブログやtwitter、facebookなどで温かいコメントを寄せていただいた皆様にも、心より感謝申し上げます。 そして、新聞や雑誌で取り上げていただいたおかげで、まさに北は北海道、南は沖縄まで全国各地から「読んでみたい」という声が寄せられました。 本当に「みんなの力（善意）で」この文集が広がっていくのが分かり、感無量です。 にほんブログ村 |

日本での外国人の生活 G.S. Victor.M（Mexico） 本選出場  この学校で勉強している人の共通点は外国人であることです。二つの理由によって私達は外国人であると思います。まず生まれた国から離れています。次に日本に滞在する機会を与えられているからです。独り言を言いたくないです。この二年間に日本であった外国人の経験も含めて話したいです。 日本は魅力的でありながら、一方なれるまでによく苦しみます。成功する機会はたくさんあるとどうじに努力しなければなりません。なぜなら日本語を覚えるために何回も頭通になったし、日常生活の中でゴミの分別や礼儀の規則を山ほど学ばなければならないからです。私達が来日をした理由は、仕事や家族の事情や勉強するためなど、それぞれ異なっていると思います。夢をかなえるために私達は知らない道を歩みだして友達や家族と離れざるをえませんでした。この二年間で私は困難や苦難を皆と共有しただけではなく、夢と希望も分かち合うことができたのではないかと思います。 乗りこえなければならない大きな壁は日本語能力です。まだ私達は日本語の理解は不十分であるため、日本人に出会うたびにその出会いが一回のみの出会いになる事は少なくありません。また日本人と会話をするときに大人の考え方を持っている私達は、かず少ない単語や文法では思ったことを伝えるのは難しいと思います。日本で頭痛がない生活を送るために日本語能力が大切といえるでしょう。皆さんがごぞんじのとおり、日本語を話せない、読めないと自分の意見は言えないから、日本で楽しくすごすことはできません。 もう一つ大きな壁は日本に来た目的を見失うことだと思います。自分で自分を知ることによってホ−ムシックと寂しさを乗り越えることができるので良い時も関係なく、まえに進みましょう。 日本に来るという与えられた機会を活かしたいです。私達が外国人として諦めそうな時、例えば日本語が分からない、文化が理解できない、ハグとキスをしない、そのような時、辞書を引いていっぱい（ビールだけじゃなくて）いっぱい勉強して飲み会にたくさん参加すれば良いと思います。 にほんブログ村 |

私が日本に来てからもう一年半ぐらいになりました。来たばかりより、現在の私は日本の生活に慣れました。でも、日本人のある習慣にずっと慣れることができません。私から見ると不思議な習慣です。 私が働いている工場では昼休みの時、皆休憩室に集まって、一緒にご飯を食べます。私はいつも工場の近くのコンビニでおにぎりを買って、みんなと一緒にたべます。日本人は毎日小さいかばんを持って来ます。かばんの中に弁当しかありません。私は毎日弁当のために専用のかばんを持って行くのは不便だと思っています。でも日本人は全然違います。「弁当は誰が作ったの」と聞きました。答えは、女性達の大体は「前の日自分で作ったの」。男性は「奥さんが作ったの」、「買ったの」、「母が作ったの」と言う事が多いです。弁当箱の蓋を取って見ると、すっごく美しい、いろいろな料理があります。野菜炒めとか魚とか、サラダとか。少しずつ丁寧に並べてあって、作る人の感情が入っていると感じます。たしかに、弁当を作る人は愛を持って弁当を作ります。奥さんは夫に対しての愛、母は息子に対しての愛、自分は生活に対しての愛を込めます。弁当を食べる人は、弁当を食べるとき愛を感じられます。これから見ると、弁当は弁当だけではなく、相手への愛を表すものであると思います。仕事の後疲れたとき、愛の弁当を食べて、暖かいお茶を飲んで、これは私達の目の中の日本人です。 その一方、日本人の人々は弁当を持って行く習慣があるので、あまり外で食事しません。日本の飲食店はほかの国より少ないです。日本の飲食店は食べ物を作るだけではなく、食べ物の芸術を目指して、美しい食べ物を作ります。自分の特徴があります。たとえば歴史が長いとか味が自慢とか、作った料理は美しくておいしいです。 にほんブログ村 |

信頼 K.Anjan（Nepal）
 世界には色々な国があって、私は日本の自然の美しさが好きなので、日本へ来ました。一人で仙台の小さい町で貧しい生活をしています。このあいだに色々な経験をしました。この色々な経験の中で信頼のことを学びました。人間の関係で信頼を学んでから、まわりの人との関係が仲良しになってきました。 日本人はむかしからルールを守って、自分が何でも出来るようになるまで、一生懸命助けてくれます。人間は皆びょうどうと思っていて、他の人の気持ちを考え、大変なこと、大問題があっても自分の問題と思って、なんか言えば「お互い様」と言って助けてくれます。地震が起きて、津波が起こって、沢山の命が失われました。それでもすべてがなくなって、なにもなくても、人の幸せを考えて自分が困っても、自分よりだいじと思って助けようとしてくれます。私はびっくりしました。なぜなら、自分がどんなに困っていても助けてくれるからです。私はこんなふうに助けることは神様にだけしか出来ないと思っていたので、おどろきました。本当に日本人たちは神様の心を持っていると思います。今まで色々な経験をしたけど、今の時代、自分が困っても他の人の幸せのためなら助ける人は日本人が一番多いと思っています。 あるとき僕の財布がなくなりました。その財布の中に大切な物は何もありませんでした。お金がすこしと連絡先しか入っていませんでした。とっても古くて、誰でもその財布を見ると貧乏な人の財布だと思います。でも、その財布をみつけてくれた人はえらい、とっても優しい日本人の人で、その財布を私に返してくれました。私は学校で授業を受けているところで、急に電話がきました。私はびっくりしました。なぜなら、新しい知らない電話番号でしたので「誰からかな」と思いました。それで途中で教室を出てその電話をとったら、その人は「あなたの財布を見つけたから時間があるときに取りに来てください」と言われました。僕は本当に嬉しくって、泣き笑ってちょっと考えました。お金が入っている財布があってもその人はちゃんと私にわたしてくれましたか。財布がなくなってどれほど大変か、それはみなさんわかりますよね。他の人が大変なことは自分だったら大変だろうと思ったから僕に財布を返してくれたのです。 日本人は本当に自分のことではなくても他の人の幸せのために何でもできるので、みなさんもみならっていこうではありませんか。 にほんブログ村 |

3/15に行われた当校の日本語弁論大会2012に向けて学生たちが書いた原稿を公開致します。
惜しくもクラス予選でクラスの代表に選ばれなかった学生たちの文もありますので、当日ご来場くださった方も、ぜひ、ご一読ください。 もう一度ゼロから生活をがんばります S.Chitpasong （Laos） 本選出場・特別賞受賞  大変な事があったら皆さんは逃げますか？それとも立ち向かいますか？世界の国々は言葉や習慣など生活のやり方が全く違います。しかし悪い事ではありません。人の考え方は十人十色です。私は2010年日本人と結婚して去年の6月に日本に引っ越さなければなりませんでした。日本で新しい事を勉強しようと思っていました。 ところで、日本と言えば、アジアの人は文化的でハイテクなので、皆この国に留学したいとか観光したいとか、長い時間住みたいと思っていました。しかし大震災が起きてそんな考え方が変わりました。「行かない」とか「危ない国」とか言いました、その大震災の時テレビの放送を見て「仙台、仙台で大被害があった」と放送しました。心がしずんでしまいました。家族と日本人の友達に何回も連絡したのにつうじませんでした。その日私は早く日本へ行きたかったです。なにか手伝える事ができればやりたいと思いました。ですから去年の6月にビサを貰ってすぐ日本に来ました。 にほんブログ村 |

あの「Love Letter from Saudi Arabia」シリーズが帰ってきました。
卒業式を１週間後に控えた3/10、学校に一通の手紙が届きました。 差出人は…  2010年度の卒業生、アハメッドさんです。 知的で普段はもの静かでしたが、ジョークのセンスは一級品でした。 今は東京の大学に通う大学生です。 そんなアハメッドさんからの手紙がこちらです。   ―――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――― こんにちは みんなの先生お元気ですか。みんなの家族はお元気ですか？八王子で暖かくなりました が、今日は雨が降っています。仙台はどうですか、まだ雪が降っていますか？ 私は昨年の８月に結婚しました。今は二人暮らしいしています。今まで連絡を してなかったので本当にすみませんでした。 八王子に一年間ぐらいいましたが、仙台へ戻って行きたいです。寒くてし、地震 が多いのに、仙台の生活はよくなれていました、とても好きでした。「日本中でどこの所が 一番いいですか」と聞かれば、私にとってすぐ宮城県の仙台市と答えるはずです。それは なぜかと言えば、「仙台国際日本語学校」で勉強していた間に新家族が ありました。みんなの先生方でも「テンプスタッフ・カメイ」HIROSHIさんと SHOJIさんも。本当に日本人がやさしくて、みんなさんのことをわすれないですよ。 昨年の大震災の時、みんなさんいろいろお世話になって、本当にありがとうございました。 2011年が良くなかったが、日本が強い国ので、回復し、以前より改善することが できるはずです！希望を失わないでください！ それで2011年よりも今年にもっともっと頑張りましょう。日本のために祈りを しています。愛を込めて。 2012年3月9日 アハメド・アヤト ――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――― アハメッドさん、御結婚おめでとうございます。 素晴らしいお手紙をありがとうございました。 でも卒業以来、顔を見ていないので少し寂しいです。 ムハイさんもタヘルさんもスハイルさんもガリブさんも来てくれましたよ（笑）。 時間があったら、ぜひ学校に遊びに来てくださいね。 （セ） にほんブログ村 |

昨年度の卒業式は、あの震災により、みんなの手で辛うじて作りあげた小さなものでした。 今振り返ると、あの頃は目の前の一日を生きるために必死でした。 学生たちの多くは日本を、仙台を離れてしまっていたため、今年このような式ができるとは考えられませんでした。 様々な困難な状況を乗り越え、本日、仙台国際日本語学校の2011年度卒業式が執り行われました。  68名の卒業生が堂々と入場。 在校生や先生の拍手に迎えられ、みんな晴れやかな表情です。  在校生代表、ネパールのディクパルさんの送辞。 ややたどたどしさはありましたが、先輩たちに感謝の想いはきっと伝わったと思います。 「留学生にとって日本語学校は家、先生たちは両親のよう」という言葉は良かったですよ。 ４月からは君たちが学校の顔です！頑張りましょう！  続いて卒業生代表、中国のワンさんの答辞。 在学期間の思い出、先生や友人たちへの感謝、後輩たちへのメッセージ、将来の抱負などを盛り込んだ素晴らしいものでした。  卒業証書授与。 代表として、中国内モンゴル出身のチさんが民族衣装で受け取りました。  そして今年度の表彰者の発表。 写真左から 優秀賞 オウさん（中国） 努力賞 チョウさん（中国）、リクさん（中国）、スニルさん（ネパール）、プラカスさん（ネパール）、アジカリさん（ネパール）、ヴィクトルさん（メキシコ） 皆勤賞 アンジャンさん（ネパール）、デヴィさん（ネパール） 受賞されたみなさん、おめでとう！  式の最後には、Ｉ江先生が作ってくださったスライドショーを上映。 今年はボランティア活動、震災文集作り、校外研修、サッカーにマラソン大会など、 いつにもまして様々な活動に取り組んだため、思い出がいっぱい。 入学から卒業までの写真を集め編集した、なんと14分を超える大作でした。  卒業生と先生たちで。  式の後にはたくさんの食べ物を囲んで茶話会。 記念撮影する者あり、友人や先生たちとの別れを惜しむ者あり、ここぞとばかりに食べる者あり。  会の途中には、１クラスの学生たちが作った「仙台の今」を伝えるＤＶＤの試写会。 監督を務めたリさんは睡眠時間を１日平均２時間にまで削って作ったそうです。 更にバージョンアップしたものを近日ＷＥＢ上で公開予定です。  すべてを終え、学校を去る前にメッセージを書き込んでもらいました。 正直すぎるものもありますが・・・。 今年度は誰にとってもつらく、大変で、忘れられない１年だったと思います。 みなさん本当によく耐え、頑張りました！ この日を全員で無事に迎えられ、本当に嬉しく思います。 校長先生の式辞にもありましたが、皆さんが日本と国際社会のかけ橋になって活躍されることを期待しています。 次に会うときは、お互い今よりもっと良い顔で会いましょう。 みなさんありがとう、そしておめでとう！ （セ） にほんブログ村 |

待ちに待った第１回弁論大会が行われました。 「待ちに待った」というのは、「クラス予選を経て」という意味のほかに、「震災を乗り越えて」という意味もあります。 去年は入念な準備を進めていたにも関わらず、あの地震で開催はできなかったのです。 今年の開催を前に思わず涙ぐむ教職員もいました。  記念すべき仙台国際日本語学校第１回弁論大会のトップバッターは「スピーチのプロ」の異名を持つ中国のオウさん。 タイトルは「４つの言葉」。「ありがとう」「すみません」「おつかれさまです」「がんばれ」をもとに、日本に来て感じた想いを語ってくれました。  午後クラスから参戦、ネパールのダハルさんで、タイトルは「私のけいけん」。 昨春日本に来てからの自分のけいけんを元気に発表してくれました。  ３クラス、ネパール人のスニルさん。 「個人の社会」というタイトルで、日本とネパールの「世間」の違いを語りました。  ラオスのチッパソンさんは「もう一度ゼロから生活をがんばります」という題名。 日本とラオスとの生活の違いに苦しんだ過去を話してくれましたが、 それをも楽しみに変えてしまう彼女のポジティブな姿勢が伝わるスピーチでした。  「遠慮して負けたくない」というタイトルで発表してくれたのは、ネパールのプラカスさん。 恥ずかしがり屋で遠慮しがちな自分を変えようという決意がひしひしと伝わってきました。  普段は物静かな中国のリクさんは「好意？悪意？」というタイトル。 日本人の本音と建前について、鋭い視点からの内容でした。 担任の先生に「あんなに話している姿は見たことがない」と言わしめる見事な発表でした。  フリースタイル、つまり原稿なしで話してくれた中国のリさん。 「差」と題して、アジアと欧米の教育の違いを制限時間の約３倍の長さで熱くスピーチしてくれました。  メキシコのヴィクトルさん、タイトルは「日本での外国人の生活」。 豊かな表情と大きい身振り手振り、また小道具を駆使して、 日本で生活する外国人の気持ちを代弁するかのような客観的でありながら情熱的な話をしてくれました。 熱くなりすぎてハンカチで額の汗を拭う場面では、会場が沸きました。  午後クラスより、ネパール人のアンナプルナさんのタイトルは「日本と私」。 「日本人は外国人とあまり話さない」というテーマを、多くの例を挙げて話してくれました。 午後クラスということもあり、日本語能力では他の発表者にかないませんが、 知っている語彙や表現をうまく選び、持ち前のソプラノボイスで楽しく表現していました。  トリを飾ったのは、中国のチェンさん。 「私は留学生です」と題して、日本での留学生活で自分が感じたことや、 自分と同じ留学生と日本語学校の先生たちに伝えたいことを紳士的に述べてくれました。 全10名の発表が終わり、審査員が別室で表彰者の選考をしている間、会場では学生たちが余興で楽しませてくれました。         そして表彰者の発表。 審査員の先生方が「本当は５名だけではなく全員に賞を贈りたい」とこぼすほど選考は難しいものだったようです。 その中から選ばれたのは…  写真左から最優秀賞オウさん、優秀賞チェンさん、アンナプルナさん、リクさん、特別賞はチッパソンさん。 本当におめでとうございます！！  最後は発表者全員で。 弁論でも余興でも、学生たちの普段は見えない才能や気持ちや個性が見られ、本当にやってよかったと思います。 ここでビッグニュース！ 今回の発表者と、クラス予選で惜しくも代表に選ばれなかった学生の原稿を、来週から当ブログにて順次公開いたします。 乞うご期待！ 最後にご来場いただいた皆様と会の開催を支えてくださった皆さまに感謝いたします。 ありがとうございました。 こちらもご覧ください。 （セ） にほんブログ村 |
